Hello,
I am a Usability Engineer and board certified Human Factors professional (AHFP). I specialize in designing innovative User Experiences through an integrated Human Centered Design methodology and a Design Thinking approach to problem solving.
I did my graduate work at the University of Minnesota where I studied Human-Computer Interaction as part of the Computer Science department. During my research and study there, I gained an appreciation for the many different disciplines that contribute to the enormously broad field of Human Factors. Below is short list of a few of my interests in these areas:
User Research - Gaining a deep understanding of users' motivations, goals, and constraints by conducting ethnography and usability testing.
Interaction Design - Designing an experience within a given context by generating personas and using a design thinking approach.
Accessibility - Designing a "thing" so it can be used by everyone and using written standards (such as Section 508, WCAG 1.0 + 2.0 and PAS 78) to help guide the processes.
GOMS - Predicting execution time for a given task through task analysis. There are several variants of GOMS and my personal favorite is the KLM-GOMS flavor.
Search - Helping a specific audience to formulate their query, input this query into the system, process the results, and modify their query as needed to ensure they are able to locate the proper information. There appear to be at least 5 unique interaction design patterns for search in an enterprise (Search, Find, Query, Lookup, and Contextual Assistance).
